FLUOROPOLYMERS
The presence of FLUORINE in this family of polymers generally confers high heat and heat aging resistance; quite good chemical resistance; very low or zero flammability; very low or zero water absorption; resistance to adhesion and a low coefficient of friction.
Variations within the family members yield improvements in certain properties while sacrificing others. For example, TEFLON®-PTFE cannot be moulded or extruded on conventional equipment. Many other members of the family can be melt processed but with a reduction in heat and chemical resistance. Click on the various FLUOROPOLYMERS in the side bar to learn more about each one. |
