An excellent high temperature resistant material possessing high physical strength across its useful temperature range. In fact, at 500°F, POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) has similar physical properties to Nylon 6 at room temperature! POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) is used in severe temperature and/or severe stress and/or high radiation environments. With limited demand, high cost producing resin and converting to rod, sheet and tube; the product is expensive. POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) has higher impact properties than other high performance polymers. Also, with high creep resistance plus high stiffness, low thermal expansion coefficient and high temperature resistance POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) lends itself to high temperature sealing against metals in compressors and steam injectors. POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) resists many chemicals and solvents including aliphatic, aromatic and halogenated hydrocarbons, acids and weak bases. Only concentrated or high temperature alkalais cause degradation. Since it is very resistant to gamma radiation POLY (AMIDE-IMIDE) is used for parts exposed to nuclear radiation. Many grades are available, all of which are filled to enhance certain properties. The high temperature resistance, stiffness and hardness result in excellent machining qualities and the dimensional stability allows for close tolerance work.
