E-CTFE is another of the melt processable FLUOROPOLYMERS with grades available for rotational moulding as well as the standard extrusion and injection moulding grades. As with CTFE, the introduction of chlorine improves the tensile properties such as strength, hardness, stiffness and creep over those of PTFE, FEP, and PFA but unlike CTFE, the impact properties of E-CTFE are not reduced. Abrasion resistance is one of the highest of any of the un-filled FLUOROPOLYMERS. Tensile properties at ambient temperature are roughly equal to those of Nylon 6, while the impact properties are much better and remain to cryogenic temperature levels. Elevated continuous temperature resistance level is 350°F, which is lower than the FLUOROPOLYMERS discussed previously. Like CTFE, the barrier properties of E-CTFE are very good. E-CTFE is completely resistant to inorganic chemicals including etchants, bases, mineral acids and oxidizing acids. It is resistant to all organic solvents with the exception of hot amines and E-CTFE is slightly swelled, like CTFE, by halogenated and oxygenated organic solvents. Like the other FLUOROPOLYMERS it will not burn in air. E-CTFE has very good electrical insulation properties; almost as good as virgin PTFE. Unlike the other FLUOROPOLYMERS this material can be hot gas welded and can be cemented with polar adhesives, like epoxy, without special treatment. Machinability is good but dimensional stability, with respect to temperature, is much poorer than the other FLUOROPOLYMERS and is more like that of POLYOLEFINS.
